Synopsis

When you believe in yourself, the sky’s the limit to what you can accomplish! It’s the height of the Great Depression, but the construction of a new, modern building – The Empire State Building – is a symbol of hope for many New Yorkers, and captures the imagination of a young boy named Mickey. When Mickey’s father must leave the city, Mickey hides in the building and is discovered by one of the water boys, really a Native American girl in disguise. He befriends a team of Mohawk ironworkers, and despite his fear of heights, accepts a job with the buildings photographer, Lewis Hine. Mickey’s new friends teach him about their rich culture, and how to overcome his fears.

Reviews

". . . Charles Greenberg’s winning music, which includes both Gershwin-esque passages and American Indian influences, 'Sky Boys' reveals the Empire State Building as so much more than a familiar silhouette."
